Pensive frog

Headed out the door this morning just as the rain began I spotted this little one on my rocks.  It has a very serious look which I thought 'pensive'.  Just google 'pensive frog' and you will find me in good company.

My pensive frog is sending a message, perhaps 'leave me alone'.  The look says it all , no?

The blue ones

"The blue ones are very good you know,"  this little tree frog seems to say as he finishes his morning meal of damsel fly.  I was surprised to find one eating in the morning. They are typically sleeping or positioning a spot to manage the heat of the day.

Leopard frogs

Maybe the wet summer brought them in, but we are loaded with Leopard frogs.  They are especially fond of the herbs and greens.  Just walk by and they start jumping!

Here is one trying to bury itself in the cool soil of an empty bed.  Maybe just for the day, like a mud bath at a spa!

And another in the bed of Field Crest.  My herbs and greens are frog approved!

Barry White as a Frog

Hello Baby. That's just what I thought when I saw this fat guy parked on a jade leaf. He was on the same leaf yesterday. It's time to move summered plants inside and I need to find all the hidden frogs so they won't dry out in the house. This fat frog will probably winter over nicely in some potting soil and be a seed frog for next year.

Rose Buds

Two frogs on a rose blossum
Two green frog buddies share a rose bloom to catch a nap. I was admiring the new roses that my yellow tea just put out and found these two asleep. I bothered them a bit to steady the stem but they stayed put and were back to rest quickly. With all the rain from Hurricane Irene we have a good number of frogs. Yeah!

Gold Dust Frog

This sleepy tree frog resting in a yellow daylily is dusted with gold pollen. Hmmm, wonder if that pollen makes those pretty gold spots on the frogs I see. A tighter view of the frog shows the pollen all over the frog's mouth.

Find a warm spot

After the big drop in temperature, I am finding frogs tucked into the zinnias. This looks like a nice warm choice.

Hmmm, does this leaf still fit?

Another leopard frog, this one out of the pond and displaying the gold lines down his back.

It's time for Tree Frogs

The late summer is the season for tree frogs. They start appearing everywhere and with all the rain we've had it should be a bumper crop! This one is on the reeds of the fresh water pond.

One Fine Frog

Back to that fresh water pond I found this beauty, a Southern Leopard Frog. I read that he is quite clever, evading a predator with a jump followed by a sharp underwater turn, leaving the predator looking the wrong way.

Green and Serene

Here's a close up at some of the vegetation in a nearly hidden fresh water pond. Beautiful. I spooked the bullfrog lording over the pond, but I'll try again.

The Green Jersey

This morning I'm watching the final day of this year's Tour de France. Winners of different categories wear a special color jersey. Green is for the top sprinter. Here's my version of the Green Jersey ... and yes he can sprint, just try and catch him when he's on a run!
